There are many important factors to consider when buying a home. After working with buyers for over 25 years I can tell you one of the most important issues buyers consider is not only price, location, bedrooms and square footage, it is the school district. It ranks in the top 5 priorities even if the buyer doesn’t have children. Why? Because of resale.
Buying a home in a good school district not only makes it convenient to send your child to a good school but it helps increase the value of your home. We found that during the last economic downturn homes located in top rated school districts had less depreciation.
Good School Districts tell you a lot about a community.
Good schools speak to the amount of funding and the amount of community involvement. It usually takes years for a new school to achieve a high ranking. For that reason, highly ranked schools tend to be in established neighborhoods rather than brand new communities or communities that experience a lot of turn-over. It can be more expensive to live in areas that have the top rated schools as these areas tend to be more recession proof.
